Web sites

Historical publications of the US Commision on Civil Rights web site is the Thurgood Marshall Law Library's attempt to create a complete electronic record of United States Commission on Civil Rights publications held in the Library's collection and available on the USCCR Web site. The USCCR examines and endeavors to resolve issues related to race, ethnicity, religion and, more recently, sexual orientation. The publications are made available over the Internet as page image presentations in PDF format. Publications are searchable by title, date, subject, and SUDOC number and accessible by date and title.


Educating the Net Generation is a freely available electronic book from EDUCASE that explores the "Net Generation" and the implications for educators and institutions in areas such as teaching, service, learning space design, faculty development, and curriculum. Contributions by educators and students are included. Text available as PDF and HTML.





Lannan Foundation is a family foundation dedicated to cultural freedom, diversity and creativity through projects which support exceptional contemporary artists and writers, as well as inspired Native activists in rural indigenous communities. Site features recorded interviews with authors, including interviews from the radio program Bookworm.

New CD-ROMS

Plasmodium Genome marks the publication of the complete genome sequences of the human and rodent malaria parasites, Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium yoelii. This CD-ROM accompanied the special Nature issue, v. 421, no. 6926 and contains articles and data relating to the plasmodium genome.



Jazz Discography version 7.0 is the latest edition of Tom Lord's authoritative chronicle of over 400,000 jazz releases on 78, 45, LP and CD. The CD-ROM contains some 22,000 pages with in-depth information on recordings from various genres of jazz.


Managing Hull Transport of Aquatic Invasive Species (CD-ROM) is the published proceedings of the University of California Sea Grant Extension Program and California State Lands Commission sponsored Workshop on Managing Hull Transport of Aquatic Invasive Species. It took place May 11, 2005 in San Francisco, California. Sixty-six people representing shipping, boating and coating businesses, vessel owners, and government, environmental and academic organizations attended. Topics from the proceedings:

New Information and Learning Sites



Open access bibliography presents over 1,300 selected English-language books, conference papers (incl. some digital video presentations), debates, editorials, e-prints, journal and magazine articles, news articles, technical reports, and other printed and electronic sources published between 1999 and 2004 that are useful in understanding the open access movement's efforts to provide free access to and unfettered use of scholarly literature.

Electronic Resources

Bookwire is a website corresponding to R.R. Bowker's book review publication. It is an internet site "dedicated to new titles, new authors, and the general scoop on the book industry! Use this site to search book reviews, read about the latest releases, watch author video clips, and learn about upcoming book events. "


Richmond Daily Dispatch is the result of a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and collaboration between the University of Richmond, Tufts University's Perseus Project, and the Virginia Center for Digital History to provide access to Civil War Era newspapers. There are currently 1384 issues of the paper available online, ranging in date from November 1860 through December 1865. Proximity and Boolean searching is available, and the ability to browse by calendar dates is a convenient feature.



The Complete Works of Charles Darwin provides "Darwin's complete publications, many handwritten manuscripts and the largest Darwin bibliography and manuscript catalogue ever published. There are also over 180 ancillary texts, from reference works, reviews, obituaries and more." The site is fully searchable, and provides original illustrations, mp3 recordings of books, and
translations of selected materials into Danish, Norwegian, German,

and Russian.
